Abstract
- Rwanda remains at the center of the news: tonight, Kigali is encircled by RPF rebel forces. This information comes from French troops on the ground. France is now concerned about this rebel advance.
- The population is literally caught in a vice between the RPF and the government army. And the slaughter continues.
- Death strikes a Kigali market. An attack carried out by the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), representing the Tutsi minority. 16 killed, around twenty wounded. Fighting for control of the capital is underway in Kigali.
- In the Kibuye region, where mass graves containing the bodies of Tutsi peasants have been discovered, the RPF, the army, and Hutu militias are also clashing for control of the area.
- The situation is similar in Butare, in the south of the country, where the RPF is stepping up the pressure. Civilians have begun to flee.
- French troops from Operation Turquoise have advanced toward Butare. Humanitarian organizations and the army hope that the presence of French forces will halt the RPF rebels' advance.
