Abstract
- In Rwanda, while the civil war continues to make thousands of victims, the representatives of the army and the rebels seem to want to conclude a ceasefire. The situation in Kigali is all the more dramatic there as the Belgian blue helmets are packing up.
- In a few hours Rwanda will be on its own: the last foreign nationals are leaving Kigali. The departure of the 450 Belgian blue helmets is imminent. Brussels is doing everything possible to ensure that its men are evacuated as quickly as possible before the airport runways are destroyed.
- Westerners abandon Kigali strewn with corpses where the massacres have never ceased. First victims of these horrors, Tutsi civilians. Tutsi constitute the overwhelming majority of the rebel soldiers of the Rwandan Patriotic Front. Thus, more than a thousand Tutsi civilians were massacred in a church 40 kilometers from Kigali under the eyes of this Belgian national. The Belgian national: "They closed the door of the church and then with grenades, rifles and submachine guns, they began to kill, to massacre everything. From half past six in the morning until evening".
- Fragile glimmer of hope as fighting continues in Kigali: under the aegis of the United Nations, the Rwandan Patriotic Front would be ready to discuss a possible ceasefire with the Rwandan army. Provided that the massacres cease throughout the territory. Provided that the Rwandan presidential guard, accused of having initiated these massacres, is put out of harm's way.
