Abstract
Jean Kambanda, the former Prime Minister of the GIR, was sentenced to life imprisonment on September 5 for his responsibility in the extermination of the Tutsi between April and July 1994. The ICTR did not accept a mitigation of the maximum sentence, although Jean Kambanda had pleaded guilty and offered his collaboration as a "repentant" in future trials.
