On February 4, 1964, the newspaper Le Monde published the testimony of a Swiss teacher Denis-Gilles Vuillemin denouncing the systematic massacres of Tutsi in the Gikongoro region. The person who gave a copy of this article noted: "What more can I say? It's already 1994". Historian Marcel Kabanda met Vuillemin before this great witness died in 2020 and compared his diary notes with reports from ICRC delegates.
