KIGALI, Nov 28 (AFP) - A Red Cross worker was killed and three others wounded when their relief lorry was blown up by a mine, the International Committee of the Red Cross said Sunday.

Jean-Baptiste Nambage was killed when the lorry crossed a demilitarized zone in the north of the tiny landlocked Central African state Saturday.

The Red Cross has reacted by suspending its relief efforts in the north and demanded guarantees from rival tribal factions that aid to the population, suffering from three years of civil war, can continue.

The "terrorist" attack was aimed at blocking aid in the area and "heightened the climate of extreme tension among the local population," the ICRC said.

No effort would be spared to make rival factions in Rwanda respect international human rights and a "detailed investigation" will be carried out into the attack, the international charity added.

An attack in the north of Rwanda on November 18 killed 37 people, the head of a team of United Nations observers said. The killers have still not been identified.

The civil war between the government and rebel Tutsi forces from the Rwanda Patriotic Front (FPR) was brought to an end on August 4 when the two signed a peace accord in Arusha, Tanzania.
