VATICAN CITY, Dec 29 (AFP) - More than 250 Roman Catholic clerics were assassinated worldwide in 1994, a Vatican news agency said Thursday.
The vast majority died in Rwanda, where 241, including three bishops, 101 priests and 64 nuns were murdered, said the Fides agency.
Eight died in Algeria, including three French and one Belgian priest gunned down Tuesday by Moslem fundamentalists.
A total of 21 missionaries were killed, including three in India, one in Uganda and others in Rwanda and Algeria.
The agency said the figures were provisional and likely under-estimates of the true toll as some murders never came to light.
