PARIS, April 9 (Reuter) - French troops evacuated 43 nationals from the
Rwandan capital Kigali on Saturday and other rescue flights were
planned, probably on Sunday, the Foreign Ministry said.
A plane took off from Kigali a little more than an hour ago,
a
ministry spokeswoman said. The operation is proceeding very well.
The Foreign Ministry declined to reveal the destination of the
evacuation flight.
French forces which flew into Kigali earlier in the day were likely to
wait until Sunday to continue the evacuation mission because of
increased risk during the night, officials said.
Earlier on Saturday the French government strongly urged its 600
nationals to leave Rwanda because of continued fighting.
Some nationals outside of the capital had already left the country by
roads leading to neighbouring Zaire and Burundi.
