KIGALI, Nov 18 (AFP) - More than 120 people have been killed by dysentery in the Muhara district of northeastern Rwanda, where more than 1,800 cases of the disease have been registered, officials said here Wednesday.
The figures were feared far short of reality since the sick rarely receive treatment in hospital. Of those who died, only two went to hospital.
Medical sources said the outbreak was worsening because of poor local hygienic conditions and 650 other cases of dysentery have been reported in the neighbouring Rutare district.
