NAIROBI, April 11 (AFP) - Rebel Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) Monday vowed to fight what it called a "government of killers" in Kigali and invited government troops to join in the war against the interim administration.
"This government of killers which was announced to Rwandans is not legitimate in the country and has been denounced abroad. We, the RPF have vowed to fight it," RPF leader Alexis Kanyarengwe said in statement broadcast on rebel radio monitored here.
"We call upon all Rwandans, particularly peace-loving soldiers, not to be alarmed by or to obstruct the RPF forces. Instead, they are requested to collaborate with the RPF and all the peace-loving people to fight these criminals," Kanyarengwe added.
Kanyarengwe said Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, killed in a plane crash, along with his Burundian counterpart Cyprien Ntaryamira on Wednesday was murdered by his own security men in a plot to sabotage last year's government-rebel peace accord.
"Habyarimana's guard troops and their collaborators are the ones who implemented this criminal scheme of causing bloodshed and mourning in the country", Kanyarengwe said in a statement broadcast on Radio Muhabura.
Habyarimana's death gave the plotters an opportunity to kill innocent civilians and political opponents, he added.
"The killers hoped the massacres would once and for all annihilate the Arusha peace agreement ... they killed the president of the constitutional court with the aim of restoring the former parliament... and establishing a puppet government," he said.
