KIGALI, Oct 30 (AFP) - One person was stabbed and wounded in the Rwandan capital Friday during a demonstration mounted by supporters of the ruling Hutu majority.

They paraded outside the attorney-general's office in the city centre, demanding the release of four fellow members of their movement, the Coalition for Defence of the Republic, who are being prosecuted for murder.

Security forces were deployed but took no action. Shopkeepers closed their stores for fear of looting by the many hangers-on who gathered around the demonstrators.

The Hutu movement drew hundreds of demonstrators onto the streets 10 days ago to protest about peace talks in Arusha, Tanzania, between the interim government and rebels of the Patriotic Front. The talks were suspended for two weeks Thursday after failure to agree on a share out of seats in an all-party transitional parliament.

The rebels come largely from Rwanda's Tutsi minority, the former overlords.
