ARUSHA, Tanzania, Aug 10 (AFP) - A fresh round of peace talks between the Rwandan government and the rebel Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) was set to begin here later Monday, Tanzanian officials said.
The negotiations are expected to focus on the thousands of refugees from Rwanda's civil war and on the integration of rebel fighters into the Rwandan national army if a peace agreement is signed, they said.
The latest negotiations will follow up a first round held at the same venue last month, leading to an internationally brokered cease-fire that came into effect ten days ago.
Organisation of African Unity (OAU) Secretary-General Salim Ahmed Salim arrived here Sunday for the meeting, after consultations in Dar es Salaam with Tanzanian President Ali Hassan Mwinyi and Foreign Minister Ahmed Hassan Diria who will preside over the talks.
Salim is scheduled to deliver the key-note address.
Representatives from Uganda, Zaire, Burundi, France and the former colonial power, Belgium, will also attend the talks.
War has raged in the small highland nation since October 1990 when the mainly ethnic Tutsis of the RPF invaded the country from Uganda in a bid to topple the 19-year-old Hutu-dominated government of President Juvenal Habyarimana.
An estimated 100,000 people have been killed and thousands more forced to flee and live as refugees in neighbouring countries.
