The sudden influx of the refugees has created a land shortage crisis, although the Ugandan government has provided land for 14 camps where nearly 30,000 Sudanese refugees already live and grow food.
"Our problem is that 40,000 refugees have to depend on food handouts. We want land to settle them so that they can be independent," said Farah.
Ugandan Prime Minister Cosmas Adiebo visited the area last week and a request for more land was now expected to be considered by his government.
Uganda, which in the last two decades produced thousands of refugees, has now a total of over 150,000 foreign refugees, mainly from Rwanda, Sudan and Zaire.
