A convoy of French troops rolled across the Rwandan border on Sunday morning (26/6) as "Operation Turquoise" spread across the southwest of the country. The convoy of 13 jeeps and two trucks, carrying red-bereted paratroopers, anti-tank missiles and machine guns, is the first major arrival in this zone since a contingent of 200 French troops crossed over three days ago. Most of the French soldiers, now numbering about 1,000 of a force that will reach 2,500, are in Zaire and making forays into Rwanda to localize some of the hundreds of thousands of refugees fleeing ethnic fighting.
